I cannot believe the writers tried to pull this off. Oh don’t worry, the writers will reorder things so that the heroes never hurt anyone, no matter how irresponsible and uncaring they are.

Eh, I don’t really think this is what they did, or at least I didn’t see it that way, and I was very, very worried that this is exactly what the writers planned to do when the David/Mary cheating thing began.
I think rather that Abigail/Catherine just realized she could have better than David, knowing that regardless of Snow/Mary Margaret there was a problem (and not necessarily because of her). Because of her righteous anger throughout the majority of the show, I interpreted her final act of grace towards David/Mary as a form of letting go for her own sake, so she could start a new life without bitterness. It didn’t make any of it “fine” and nothing was excused. I also found the message of the show very clear in that what David and MM did was wrong, especially after what MM has been telling David about their lies and cheating. It also looks like the writers intend for MM and David to continue to suffer the repercussions of their wrongdoing.
